Aztec Calender

The representaion of an archaeological site where the remains of an unknown civilization has been unearthed. A colossal stone hand hold a necklace with an emblem was uncovered as well as smaller of the same emblems. My love of archaeology was the basis. My Mexican heritage is indicated by the green, white and red thread marking off the site. The rosary-like necklace is from my Catholic upbringing. The hand is a major symbol in all my art. It is trying to grasp the emblem which is the Aztec symbol for "home". This is a symbol I use to represent myself in other works. Retrospectively, this was my first piece after my Grandmother passed away. I chose clay and ceramic because she was a ceramicist and taught me how to work with it. I actually used the same tools she had used.
